Allow me to introduce myself…

Hi there! Sam’s the name and language learning is my game…

In 2012 I made a decision that would change my life forever! Little did I know that this one simple choice would direct the course of my passion, outlook and profession for years to come. I booked a surprise holiday to Rome for my now fiancee (soon to be wife) and dabbled in a little Italian to show off to her when we arrived. Who doesn’t want to sound impressive to their partner when they go travelling? Much to my delight, I not only learnt how to check in at a hotel, order food and give directions to lost Italians (which I am particularly proud of) but I also found the hobby and passion I had always felt I was missing… Language learning.

I wasn’t always enamored with the linguistic pursuits though. In school I detested languages. The classes were boring and the dusty coursebooks were more so. I left after 4 years of studying German and French with little to no useful knowledge and the firm idea in my head that I just wasn’t a language person. How wrong I was!

As I will tell anyone that will listen, there is no such thing as a language person, just someone who is willing to stick at it and find a fun way to do it that is as far from the boring old classrooms as you can get. Since then I have dabbled in a total of 5 languages and my bucket list is always growing with new additions I want to get my lips and ears around.

With all my new tongues, came a desire to travel and meet the people that I had been learning to speak to. France, Germany, Italy, Iceland and the UK; we have found some pretty fantastic places and our ambitions are only getting bigger. There is nothing better than packing your bags and flying, driving or even walking, to a completely new place to experience the world in a new way. Meet different people, eat amazing food and broaden your horizons. The only thing I like as much as the feeling of a great adventure is sharing them with you…

So what am I doing now? Well, I am a blogger, language content creator and a full time online English teacher. When you are a language addict there is only one career choice for you. To share your passion for languages with the world as an English teacher. That’s why, in 2018, I made the huge decision to leave my previous career (as a product designer) and follow my language teacher dreams. I’ve never looked back.

Join me as I share my triumphs and failures on the road to becoming a confident polyglot, seasoned adventurer and spectacular English teacher. Stepping off the beaten track and finding my own way through this mess they call life.
